Hardware hacking

I am getting more and more interested in IP telephony. I saw on some mailing-lists that some people where hacking a Linksys WRT54G router in order to run Asterisk [en] on it. I was in need of a router so I finally bought one last saturday. Installing OpenWRT [en] was quite easy to do. Unfortunaly, I discovered that the Linksys WRT54G router only has 2Mb of RAM which is quite short in order to fully use Asterisk [en].

As I was already using a Linksys NSLU2 and knew it was also hackable with a Linux distribution, I’m going to try to install Asterisk [en] on it. It will be much more comfortable as it has 64Mbs of RAM, and is of course linked to hard-drives that should be able to keep the voice mails :-)
